Teaching English is my passion, thus I really enjoy working with students from all rural areas around Zacapoaxtla. In this region of Mexico, English is hardly heard or even taught, because most of the students speak Nahuatl (an indigenous language) as their mother tongue, making it difficult to learn English as a second language instead of Spanish; that is why teaching is a real challenge to face day to day.
Although students seem to dislike the language, I love the end of the semesters, as they enjoy working in teams and start achieving the communication goals set at the beginning of the course. As an English teacher, I also have worked in elementary schools and high schools in a small town called Tlatlauquitepec, where English is getting at its peak with the purpose to increase the level of English by the end of undergraduate education. Due to the lack of courses to teach English in this region of Mexico, I also teach private classes of English to teenagers and young adults who are eager to learn. It has been pretty difficult to motivate students to study English, but it is working, and I surely know that within a few years, the national curriculum’s goal will be achieved and students will be on track for getting a certification. I would like to hear about your experiences. Send me a message at [email protected].
